How we work
“I like this school because there is always something to do and the teachers are always there to help, no matter what the subject.” Charlotte, age 10
“On the playground there is a “Buddy Bench” so if you are lonely at playtime you can sit on the Buddy Bench and someone will come to play with you.” Anu, age 8
We believe in giving our children a great deal of independence. We are committed to nurturing a sense of mutual respect built on trust, so that each child has the opportunity to develop a sense of responsibility.
Our school day starts at 8.50am. Children are welcome to arrive from 8.40am onwards. The total teaching time amounts to 23.5 hours a week for the Junior children and 21.5 hours a week for the Infant children.
We have seven year groups. All our classes are parallel, each with a class teacher. However, setting takes place throughout the school.
Certain subjects are taught by specialist teachers. Where appropriate, small groups may be taught separately to give them extra help with special educational needs.
At Holly Lodge, we give our children the opportunity to become mentors, something that nurtures a caring environment and teaches patience and empathy in relationships. We also invite children to become members of the school council, offering them the chance to be involved in how their school is run.
