Summer Term Newsletter 7
27th May 2005
Logo Launch
The launch of the new logo went smoothly. The children sang beautifully and their new badges were shown off to good effect. Thank you all for making this possible.
Thank you to the Mayor of Guildford, our local MP Michael Gove, two LEA representatives, Governors and parents who were able to attend.
We have a new centrepiece for our entrance hall which the children are thoroughly enjoying. If you have a moment to spare, please do call in to have a look. The new signage will make it easier for new visitors to find our front office! Our thanks once again to our main sponsors, Mike Denny of Roundel, Adrian Baker of Doric, John Wildgoose and Sandra Deeble.
We hope you have enjoyed looking through the new school brochure that you received earlier this week.

Urgent Request to Year 6 Parents
Parents who have received offers of a place at Secondary School for their child but are not taking up the offer could you please inform the schools of their decision. We are receiving phone calls asking for confirmation and in some cases children are unsure and I do not have the confirmation myself.
Thank you.
Mrs Boulnois
Traffic Management Scheme
Copies of the proposed Traffic Management Scheme for the Mytchett Road are available on the back of the PTA notice board.
Mr Raymond Watkins
Any parents who attended Holly Lodge in the early to mid 1970’s will probably remember the school’s first Headteacher, Mr Raymond Watkins. Sadly, Mr Watkins died last week at the age of 89. He was Headteacher for approximately 5 years from the time the school opened in 1971 until his retirement. Prior to this, Mr Watkins was Head at Ash Vale Primary School. Mrs Bunyan and Mr Elsey, both of whom had worked with Mr Watkins under his Headship, represented Holly Lodge at his funeral on Thursday.
Child Safety Week
For the second year running, Year 6 children were invited to the Guildford Spectrum to participate in âÃúChild Safety WeekâÃù. Expert tutors from St John’s Ambulance, the Fire Service, Surrey Police and Surrey Road Safety Officers (to name a few) took the children through a series of eight activities. Each tutor covered safety issues relating to real-life scenarios that the children might meet: safety on railway lines, first aid, making a 999 call under pressure, dangers near water. They also covered “Stranger Danger” (ask your child if he/she went off with the strangers!!) danger points in the kitchen and how to deal with a fire in the home. Some of these were very dramatic, especially facing smoke in the kitchen and being tempted to go with strangers.
It was a very intensive, valuable and enjoyable morning. Please discuss the activities with your children as they should now be aware of some safety issues relevant to their own homes.
