Governors Meeting
The first Governors Meeting of the new year was held on the 27th of September and we were pleased to welcome two new Governors: Brian Luff as a Parent Governor and David Voller as a Local Authority appointee. We were also pleased to welcome back Kevin Josey who was re-elected at the same time as Brian.
The parent questionnaire from last May was discussed at some length; there was a very good response rate (for which many thanks) with a great deal of helpful feedback. Two of the key issues raised were security and communication with the school through Class Representatives. These are being addressed, along with the other points raised, by the Health and Safety Committee and by the school. Updates on progress will appear in future newsletters. The winner of the Studio Shoot (which was hopefully seen as an incentive to reply to the questionnaire!) was Linda Holloway, who should email David Galloway on galloway.david@virgin.net to claim the prize, or phone 01483 236602.
The Governors agreed to commission an Energy Review of the school premises, with two objectives: to understand how well our buildings are insulated and what needs to be done to improve them; and to determine what alternative sources of energy might be appropriate for the school in the long term.
Absence from School. The Governors wish to re-iterate the importance to both the children and the staff of a high attendance rate at school; we want to encourage and achieve a 100% attendance record at Holly Lodge. So please note that children should now only be taken out of school in exceptional circumstances. Your support with this will be appreciated.
Reception 2007 Intake
If your child is due to start school in September 2007, you must register your choice of school with Surrey County Council by 19th October 2006.
For further details please enquire at the School Office.
PE Lessons
For Health and Safety reasons earrings and ear studs must be removed for PE lessons. We have a number of children who are unable to remove their own earrings and staff cannot be held responsible for doing this for them. Can you please ensure that on the day your child has PE earrings are removed.
Thank you.
Poetry Workshop
Four Year 6 pupils were lucky enough to spend a day in the company of poet Brian Moses last Wednesday. He led a poetry workshop where he encouraged the children to write creatively. It is always amazing to experience a genuine, talented poet in action and the day was both entertaining and beneficial. Four more children will have a similar opportunity to develop their creative skills with a poet or author next term. The children were:

Year 3 Butser Ancient Farm Visit
At 9.00 a.m. on Monday morning, Year 3 went to Butser Ancient Farm. When we arrived we were divided into three groups called Sheep, Chickens and Wild Boars. We spun wool on a spindle, built a wall out of clunch which is made of mud, straw, water and chalk and made a fence out of hazel twigs. We visited a round house and made a pattern out of mosaic tiles. Afterwards we had a picnic and visited the gift shop. Once we had said goodbye we came home on the coach.

Class 3A
On Monday 25th September Year 3 went to Butser Ancient Farm. We made some clunch from chalk that we had to hammer with a wooden hammer and mix it with some mud, water and straw. We then put it on a wall. To clean our hands we had to wipe them on the grass then put our hands in a bucket of water which became very muddy. We went into a Roman villa and saw lots of mosaics. The thing I liked most was the mosaics and hammering the chalk. I wish we could have touched all the animals.
We had a great day at Butser Farm. It was fun.
