Harvest
This year for our Harvest celebration we will be supporting the Hampshire Youth Bureau. This organisation looks after homeless youths in the Aldershot/Guildford area supplying, them with food and toiletries.
We are asking you to donate tins/packets of food or toiletries on Tuesday 10th October. We will send home a list of suggestions nearer the time. The goods will be displayed for our Harvest assembly and subsequently collected by the Youth Bureau.
We have two Harvest assemblies one for the Infants on Wednesday 11th October and the Juniors on Thursday 12th October. You are welcome to attend. Doors open at 9.00 a.m. as assemblies will begin at 9.15 a.m.
Bird Scarer Competition
The children were asked to design a bird scarer as a summer holiday project. The two winning entries were:
1st Prize – Omar Elghor – Year 4
2nd Prize – Joe Killen – Year 3
Congratulations go to both children for the time and effort they spent on these. We are hoping to put the scarecrows to good use on the school field.
Home School Agreement
Attached to this newsletter are some important letters. Please read, sign and return all the tear off slips to your childs class teacher by 22nd September 2006.
Reading Books
If you have any of the schools reading/library books at home, please could you return them to school. We have found our book stock considerably depleted as children are forgetting to return books when they have finished reading them.
You may have books in good condition that your children have outgrown or no longer want that may be suitable for use in school. If you would like to donate these to us, please bring them to your class teacher to check their suitability. Thank you.
School Meals
School meals should be paid for in advance but must not be more than two weeks in arrears. If you have not yet paid for your childs school meals, please pay at the School Office. The cost is £1.60 per day. You can pay on line on the Surrey County Council website, by cash or by cheques which are payable to Surrey County Council. If you have any queries, please see the School Office.
Parent Governor Election
A reminder that ballot forms should be returned to the school over the coming week. The election will close at 12 noon on Monday 25th September.
School Visits
For a number of years we have used the services of a local coach company for most of our visits and they have provided us with an efficient service at reasonable cost. Unfortunately this company has now gone out of business and we are having to look elsewhere for established companies that can supply coaches with the seating capacity that we need. We are finding that prices are higher than we have been used to and this will be reflected in the overall costs of visits. In addition, some sites that we use are now charging VAT on their services which we are not able to reclaim. We hope that parents will continue to support the visits, despite the increased costs, as we feel that they do form an important part of the childrens learning experience.
Tesco Vouchers
We are once again collecting Tesco vouchers for sports equipment. A letter explaining how to nominate Holly Lodge to win 10,000 vouchers is on the reverse of this newsletter.
Holly Lodge School Association
There will not be a BBQ at the Fun Run as advertised in the last HLSA newsletter although Hot Dogs will be served.
