Passport to the World
The children were sorted into 14 large families, each group containing two children from every year, right from Reception to Year 6. The older children were the mums, dads, grandparents, aunts and uncles, who had to look after the younger ones; a responsibility, which was undertaken very seriously.
At nine o’clock everyone assembled on the playground at check in points and then flew off to each continent in the world, accompanied by our attractive and smartly uniformed air stewardesses (otherwise known as Teaching Assistants). The holiday atmosphere was complete with the children dressed in their going away clothes, clutching their passports and hand luggage.
During the course of the day each child visited all seven year groups to study the displays and to learn a little about each selected country. They completed a variety of activities such as learning songs and foreign languages, sending postcards, solving puzzles and participating in art activities. At the end of each session they were able to leave, sometimes with a souvenir but always with a newly stamped passport and some facts and figures from the relevant country fresh in their minds.
It was a thoroughly exhausting but immensely enjoyable day. The children gained a new perspective on geography in a fun and exciting way. We hope they will continue to take an interest in the world around them and the countries that they studied. I would personally like to thank everyone who was involved, from parents sending in their children appropriately dressed, to the staff who put in so much hard work to make this a valuable learning experience for the children.
Mrs Midworth
Geography Coordinator
I would like to thank all the staff for the tremendous amount of preparation they put into the day and the enthusiasm, which made it such a successful and memorable experience for the children. My particular thanks go to Mrs Midworth for her organisation and hard work. Our flight attendants stole the show in their uniforms!
Miss Ross
If you have been in to donate towards Miss Ross’ leaving gift, we now have a card in the school office for you to write your message.
Sports Day
The torrential deluge was unfortunate as it meant that we had to cancel Sports Day. By the time you read this we are hoping that Sports Day has already taken place!
Meridian South
The children in Years 5 & 6 have been filmed by Meridian Television, reproducing the work covered in the Hopes & Dreams project as this ties in with the discussions currently being held at the G8 Summit.
Hopefully this will be shown on Meridian South at 6 o’clock on Friday 8th July. However, this may be shown on another day, due to yesterday’s events in London. The children did superbly. We are thinking of hiring in some cameras, as the children were stunned into silence just watching the camera!
Car Parking
Our local police have patrolled the road outside the school this past week and have noticed that many people are parking on the ‘zig-zag’ lines at the front of the school. These are for the childrens’ safety and the police have informed us that parking on these lines in future could face a £60 fine and 3 points on their licence.
