Autumn Term Newsletter 1
9th September 2005
We would like to welcome all our new children and their parents to Holly Lodge. The children have happily settled into the school routine and we are pleased that our new children also appear to be well integrated into life at Holly Lodge.
I apologise for the late start to term. Unfortunately it was unavoidable, as the builders did not finish in the planned timescale. Despite our best efforts, not all parents were informed of the change. To help us disseminate this type of information quickly for the future, it would be very helpful if all parents would agree to the class representatives having access to a contact telephone number. They will be approaching you in the next few weeks to introduce themselves and arrange this.
Attached to this newsletter are the dates for the year which will be added to as the year goes by. We have also attached School Terms and Holiday Dates for 2005/06.
A newsletter goes out every Friday so could you please check that your child has brought one home. For our family groups, we send the newsletter home with the youngest child. If for some reason you have not received a newsletter, please ask either your child’s teacher or the School Office to provide you with a copy.
New Intake
If you are expecting your child to start school in September 2006, or know of anyone who is, please come in to the School Office and put your child’s name on our waiting list.
Parents who wish to register their children to start school in September 2006, will shortly receive a letter inviting them to visit us.
Holidays
If you would like permission to remove your child from school during term time you will need to collect a form from the School Office. Please note that children can only be authorised to take two weeks holiday in total during the academic year. Special permission from the Chair of Governors needs to be obtained for anything exceeding two weeks.
Our assessment period for our Year 2 children is from 19th April through to 25th May 2006 and for Year 6 children is from 20th February through to 12th May 2006. We would like the children to be in school at this time, so please do not book holidays or days out during this period. Assessments for Years 1, 3 and 5 are 8th – 12th May and children will need to be in school for these dates.
Mytchett Road Traffic Management
We have been informed by Surrey County Council’s Local Transportation Service for Surrey Heath, that the package of measures proposed for Mytchett Road that were displayed in the reception area in June were approved by the Local Committee on 21st July 2005.
The works are anticipated to take place in October 2005 with the crossing still subject to future funding. Details are available on their web site at www.surreycc.gov.uk (under SCC Local Committee Surrey Heath).
Last year we ran a competition for traffic signs for the Mytchett Road. Our two winners are:
Adrianna Antiri & Faline Chapman
Both these designs will feature in the road signs that will shortly be erected on Mytchett Road.
These traffic calming measures will help our walking bus on their journey to school. If you would like to join the walking bus, please contact Helen Legge through the school office.
Jewellery
Please note that all jewellery will need to be removed for PE lessons. It would be very helpful if children do not wear their earrings to school on PE days.
School Dinners
May we remind you that if your child has school dinners, we require payment in advance. If you should be in arrears by two weeks, your child will have to bring a packed lunch until the debt has been cleared.
If you are eligible for free school meals could you please see the School Office for the necessary forms.
Reception Children – School Dinner
Reception children who are Autumn born will stay for lunch on Tuesday 20th September and will need to be picked up at 1.30 p.m. From *Wednesday 21st September they will stay all day and will be collected from school at 3.15 p.m.
If you wish your child to have school meals, your child will be given a request slip early next week to complete and return to the class teacher no later than Friday 16th September.
Second Hand School Uniform
The second hand uniform sale on Friday 9th September has been cancelled and will be rescheduled on Monday 19th September at 3.15 p.m. in the hall.
Consent Forms
Early next week we will be sending you a pack containing information covering issues such as Health & Safety in school as well as our Home School Agreement and consent forms for local visits. We would appreciate it if you could return the attached proformas by Friday 16th September to the class teacher.
Clubs
We will shortly be sending you information about the clubs that we will be running.
Wet Weather
Should it be raining at the start of the school day, we have asked the children to use the covered areas outside each classroom as shelters until 8.40 a.m. At this time they can enter the classrooms.
